When you go out to make photographs, do so with the sole intention:"I want to see how it looks on a photograph". So, it doesn't matter much what you take and your mind is free. You don't HAVE to make the best photograph in the world! Enjoy, is more important.
Then, after you returned home, see what is missing: "Why is it not how I intended the photograph to be, what is missing?". The next time, preferably to the same location, see if you can make it better, and so on. You don't have to save on a roll of film nowadays, do you?
Have fun!
