'Lighthouse'
NCP project 1999 Year of Architecture, GLASGOW, Scotland
A new centre for architecture and design proposed to be housed in Mitchell Street in the former Glasgow Herald building designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh. We were asked by Lwd architects to develop and visualise an ('wild-cat') idea for the outside of the building and the parking on the other side of the street because at that moment it all looked rather desolate.
The idea was to have shops on the two lower floors and a multimedia projection of cultural events from the Lighthouse on a screen across the street and a semi/ permanent exhibition on the balustrade of all floors of the parking.
Main ideas for consideration:
-exhibition space on the outside wall of carpark
-good visibility/attraction from Buchanan street
-large projection screen on side for special events and/or advertising of other cultural events covering costs of the exhibition.
-projection from the 'Lighthouse' building
'intellibeams' (moving logo's etc.)
change the colour of light in the carpark to improve the atmosphere
-rooftop activities: garden, art, tennis court / lunchbreak-concerts
